Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADEA, the ADA, and the City of Austin's Employment Ordinance protect individuals from difference in treatment in their employment because of their race, color, sex, disability, age, religion and national origin. The Employment Ordinance also protects an individual from discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. The City of Austin handles any complaints regarding employment discrimination through their Human Resources Department.
Persons who believe that they have been treated differently because of their protected class in their employment, where the employer employs 15 persons or more and the discrimination act occurred within 180 days.
