Job Summary: The Development Manager (DM) is a critical part of the Urban Roots fundraising team; providing essential administrative, logistical, and creative support to keep our small team humming. The DM is key internal position that helps us build capacity for others on the development team to fundraise out in the community. The DM builds strong partnerships and creates consistent brand awareness with authentic and timely communication. Urban Roots has diverse fundraising streams - grants, events, individual/corporate support & earned revenue. Overall, our fundraising efforts rely upon the generosity and support of the Austin community and our gratitude is key to our fundraising philosophy. As a key leader on the development team, the DM will work closely with the Development Director, Volunteer Coordinator, and Social Media Intern. Essential Job Duties: COMMUNICATIONS Create content and manage design for digital and print materials (flyers, brochures, programs) ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for each Create copy for fundraising appeals, personal solicitation letters, sponsorship proposals and donor acknowledgements Write and track monthly e-newsletters and manage social media accounts DATABASE MANAGEMENT Manage and maintain donor database Pull reports, mailing lists and donor records to assist in fundraising efforts. Provides administrative support for special events including data management, mailings, marketing and other communication initiatives EVENT PLANNING Work with team to plan and execute two annual signature fundraisers, multiple open houses & community lunches, and other small events during the year, including third-party events Coordinate logistics for events including but not limited to securing venue, rentals, A/V, chef participation, etc. MISCELLANEOUS DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT Research and write grants Create agendas, take notes, and follow up for fundraising meetings strategy sessions Schedule meetings with key stakeholders We are looking for you, if: You have three to five years of experience in fundraising and communications You possess supreme organizational skills with great attention to detail You get a lot of satisfaction creating and checking off your “To Do” list You have the proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects with grace You are team-oriented and nimble; flexible in meeting shifting demands and priorities You have proven writing and editing skills with a passion for storytelling; experience with grant writing is a plus You are energized by working in a fast-paced environment, including occasional weekends and evenings You have a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs - experience with Etapestry and InDesign is a plus You are willing to go above and beyond to further a mission that you believe in You are committed to justice and sustainability, have a great sense of humor, and view yourself as someone still learning and growing You are able to build relationships with others who are different from you and seek out opportunities to do so Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a strong plus Compensation: This is a full-time position and salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range is $40,000 to $45,000. Benefits include paid time off, healthcare, seasonal farm fresh produce, and a fun and flexible work culture.
